Ingredients

1 lb (450g) ground chicken

1 cup fresh spinach, finely chopped

¾ cup white cheddar cheese, shredded

½ cup breadcrumbs (preferably whole wheat)

1 clove garlic, minced

1 small onion, finely chopped

1 tsp Worcestershire sauce

1 tsp Dijon mustard

1 tsp salt

½ tsp black pepper

½ tsp paprika

¼ tsp red pepper flakes (optional for heat)

4 whole wheat burger buns

Lettuce leaves and tomato slices for serving

Olive oil for brushing

Instructions

Prepare the Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground chicken, chopped spinach, shredded white cheddar, breadcrumbs, minced garlic, chopped onion, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, salt, black pepper, paprika, and red pepper flakes (if using). Mix until well combined, but avoid overmixing to keep the burgers tender.

Form the Patties: Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape them into patties, about ¾-inch thick.

Chill the Patties: Place the formed patties on a plate or a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to help them firm up and hold their shape during cooking.

Preheat the Grill: Preheat your grill or stovetop grill pan over medium-high heat. If using a stovetop, lightly oil the pan to prevent sticking.

Cook the Burgers: Brush both sides of the patties lightly with olive oil. Place the patties on the grill and cook for about 5-6 minutes on each side, or until they reach an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C) and have nice grill marks.

Toast the Buns: While the patties are cooking, cut the whole wheat buns in half and place them cut-side down on the grill for about 1-2 minutes or until they are lightly toasted.

Assemble: Once the burgers are cooked, place each patty on the bottom half of a toasted bun. Top with lettuce, a slice of tomato, and finally the top half of the bun.

Serve: Serve immediately with your favorite condiments or sides, such as sweet potato fries or a fresh green salad.
