Ingredients

1 cup all-purpose flour

1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1 tablespoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 cup whole milk

1 large egg

2 tablespoons melted butter (plus extra for cooking)

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 cup chocolate chips (semi-sweet or dark)

Optional toppings: whipped cream, fresh berries, maple syrup, or additional chocolate chips

Instructions

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract until fully incorporated.

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined; be careful not to over-mix (some lumps are okay).

Fold in the chocolate chips, distributing them evenly throughout the batter.

Preheat a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat and add a small amount of melted butter to coat the surface.

Pour about 1/4 cup of batter onto the skillet for each pancake. Cook for 2-3 minutes until bubbles form on the surface.

Flip the pancakes and cook for another 1-2 minutes until browned and cooked through.

Repeat with remaining batter, adding more butter to the skillet as needed.

Serve warm, topped with whipped cream, fresh berries, maple syrup, or more chocolate chips as desired.
