Ingredients

1 (12-pack) of sweet Hawaiian rolls

6 large eggs

1 cup whole milk

1/2 cup heavy cream

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup crushed pineapple (drained)

1/3 cup shredded coconut (optional)

Powdered sugar for dusting

Fresh fruit for serving (optional)

Maple syrup for drizzling (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Begin by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C) and greasing a 9x13 inch baking dish with butter or cooking spray.

Prepare the Bread: Slice the Hawaiian rolls in half and place them cut-side up in the prepared baking dish, making sure to arrange them snugly.

Make the Custard Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until well combined.

Add Pineapple and Coconut: Fold in the crushed pineapple and shredded coconut (if using) into the custard mixture for added flavor and texture.

Combine and Soak: Pour the custard mixture evenly over the sliced Hawaiian rolls, ensuring each piece is well coated. Gently press the rolls down with a spatula to help them soak up the custard. Leave it to soak for about 15-20 minutes.

Bake the French Toast: Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the center is set.

Serve: Once done, remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Dust with powdered sugar and serve warm, topped with fresh fruit and a drizzle of maple syrup if desired.

Enjoy! This sweet, fluffy, and tropical French toast bake is perfect for brunch or a comforting breakfast treat!
