Ingredients

1 loaf of brioche or challah bread, cut into 1-inch cubes

6 large eggs

2 cups whole milk

1 cup heavy cream

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1 tablespoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 cup maple syrup (for drizzling)

Powdered sugar (for serving)

Fresh berries (optional, for topping)

Instructions

Prepare the Bread: In a large mixing bowl, toss the bread cubes with a little cinnamon and set aside.

Mix the Custard: In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until well combined.

Combine: Pour the custard mixture over the bread cubes, ensuring all the bread is fully soaked. Gently press down on the bread to submerge it.

Chill Overnight: Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight, allowing the bread to absorb the custard.

Preheat the Oven: The next morning, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Bake: Remove the casserole from the refrigerator and sprinkle a little more cinnamon on top if desired. Bake for 45-55 minutes until the top is golden brown and the center is set.

Serve: Allow the casserole to cool for 10 minutes before slicing. Drizzle with maple syrup, dust with powdered sugar, and garnish with fresh berries if using. Serve warm.
