Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 tablespoon baking powder

1 teaspoon salt

1 tablespoon sugar

1 cup milk (or buttermilk for a tangy flavor)

2 tablespoons melted butter (plus extra for greasing)

Optional: herbs (e.g., rosemary, thyme) or sesame seeds for seasoning

Instructions

In a large mixing bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.

Create a well in the center of the dry ingredients and add the milk and melted butter.

Mix until a soft dough forms. If the dough is too sticky, add a little more flour, a tablespoon at a time. If too dry, add a little more milk.

Knead the dough gently for about 1-2 minutes on a floured surface until it is smooth.

Divide the dough into two equal portions and shape them into round loaves or flattened discs (about 1 inch thick).

Preheat a nonstick skillet over low to medium heat and lightly grease it with melted butter.

Place the dough rounds in the skillet, cover with a lid, and cook for about 10-15 minutes on one side or until golden brown.

Carefully flip the loaves, cover again, and cook for an additional 10-15 minutes. Check for doneness by tapping the bottom; it should sound hollow.

Once cooked, remove from the skillet and let them cool on a wire rack. Optionally, brush with additional melted butter and sprinkle herbs or sesame seeds for added flavor.

Serve warm with butter, jams, or your favorite spread.
