At the heart of Mozzarella Pepperoni Croissant Rolls are two iconic ingredients: mozzarella and pepperoni. Mozzarella cheese, with its rich, creamy texture and mild flavor, has been a staple in Italian cuisine for centuries. It is often associated with traditional pizza, where its melting qualities create that perfect gooey layer atop a crispy crust. When combined with pepperoni, a beloved cured sausage that brings a spicy, savory kick, the flavors become a harmonious celebration of Italian culinary traditions.

Ingredients

1 can (8 oz) refrigerated crescent roll dough

4 oz fresh mozzarella cheese, cut into small cubes

60-80 slices of pepperoni (about 1 oz)

1/4 cup marinara sauce (for dipping)

1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Olive oil (for brushing)

Fresh basil leaves (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Prepare Crescent Dough: Open the can of crescent roll dough and gently unroll it on a clean surface. Separate the triangles along the perforated lines.

Add Filling: Place one slice of pepperoni at the wider end of each triangle, followed by a cube of mozzarella. Sprinkle a pinch of Italian seasoning over the cheese.

Roll the Croissants: Starting from the wide end, gently roll the triangle towards the point, enclosing the filling tightly. Ensure that the point is tucked underneath to help it stay closed during baking.

Prepare for Baking: Place the rolled croissants on the prepared baking sheet. Brush the tops with the beaten egg and a little olive oil for a golden finish.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until the croissants are golden brown and puffed up.

Serve: Remove from the oven and let cool for a minute. Serve warm with marinara sauce on the side for dipping. Garnish with fresh basil leaves if desired.

Prep Time: 10 minutes | Total Time: 25 minutes | Servings: 8 croissant rolls
