Ingredients

For the Dough:

4 cups all-purpose flour

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast

1 tsp salt

1 cup whole milk, warmed (110°F/43°C)

1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

2 large eggs

For the Filling:

2 cups peeled and diced apples (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)

1/2 cup brown sugar, packed

2 tsp ground cinnamon

1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened

1/2 cup chopped pecans (optional)

For the Cream Cheese Frosting:

8 oz cream cheese, softened

1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

2 cups powdered sugar

1 tsp vanilla extract

2 tbsp milk (as needed for consistency)

Instructions

Prepare the Dough:

    - In a large bowl, combine warmed milk, yeast, and sugar. Allow it to sit for about 5-10 minutes, until foamy.

      - Add melted butter, eggs, and salt to the yeast mixture, then gradually mix in flour until a dough forms.

        - Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes, or until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.

          Prepare the Filling:

            - While the dough rises, mix diced apples, brown sugar, and cinnamon in a bowl. Set aside.

              Roll Out the Dough:

                - Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a lightly floured surface into a rectangle (approximately 16x12 inches).

                  - Spread the softened butter evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges.

                    Add the Filling:

                      - Evenly sprinkle the apple mixture over the buttered dough. Add chopped pecans if using.

                        - Starting from the long edge, tightly roll the dough into a log. Pinch the seam to seal the roll.

                          Slice and Rise:

                            - Cut the log into 12 equal pieces and place them in a greased 9x13-inch baking dish or on a lined baking sheet.

                              - Cover with a clean towel and let them rise again for about 30 minutes.

                                Bake:

                                  - Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.

                                    Prepare the Cream Cheese Frosting:

                                      - While the rolls are baking, beat the softened cream cheese and butter together in a mixing bowl until smooth and creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar and vanilla extract, mixing until well combined. Add milk as needed to reach desired consistency.

                                        Frosting the Rolls:

                                          - Once the rolls are out of the oven, allow them to cool slightly and then generously drizzle the cream cheese frosting over the warm rolls.

                                            Serve:

                                              - Enjoy these delightful apple cinnamon rolls warm, and watch them disappear quickly!
