French toast sticks have become a beloved breakfast staple, appealing to both children and adults alike. Their delightful combination of crispy exterior and soft, custardy interior makes them an irresistible treat for any morning or as a snack throughout the day. Unlike traditional French toast, which is typically cooked on a griddle and involves a bit of mess, French toast sticks present a convenient, dippable format that can easily be enjoyed with a variety of sides, such as syrup, fruit, or yogurt.

Ingredients

6 slices of thick bread (preferably brioche or challah)

4 large eggs

1 cup milk

2 tablespoons granulated sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Pinch of salt

1/4 cup all-purpose flour

1/4 cup breadcrumbs (panko for extra crunch)

Cooking spray or melted butter (for greasing)

Maple syrup, for serving

Fresh berries, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a baking sheet with cooking spray or melted butter.

Cut each slice of bread into three strips to create French toast sticks.

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until well combined.

Set up a breading station: Place the flour in one shallow dish and the breadcrumbs in another.

Dip each French toast stick first into the flour (shake off excess), then into the egg mixture, allowing any excess to drip off, and finally coat with breadcrumbs.

Place the coated French toast sticks on the prepared baking sheet in a single layer.

Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, flipping halfway through, until they are golden brown and crispy on the outside.

Serve warm with a drizzle of maple syrup and fresh berries, if desired.
