Ingredients

1 lb ground beef

1 medium onion, finely chopped

1 cup breadcrumbs

1 large egg

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1 teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon black pepper

1 cup beef broth

2 cups frozen mixed vegetables (carrots, peas, corn)

2 medium potatoes, peeled and sliced

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

2 tablespoons olive oil

Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 375°F (190°C) to prepare for baking.

Prepare the beef mixture: In a large bowl, combine ground beef, chopped onion, breadcrumbs, egg, minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.

Shape patties: Form the beef mixture into oval patties, approximately ¾ inch thick. You should get about 4 to 6 patties.

Sear the patties: In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the patties and sear for about 3-4 minutes on each side, until browned. Remove from skillet and set aside.

Prepare the dish: In a 9x13 inch baking dish, layer the frozen mixed vegetables evenly at the bottom. Pour the beef broth over the vegetables.

Add the patties: Place the seared hamburger steaks on top of the mixed vegetables in the baking dish.

Layer the potatoes: Arrange the sliced potatoes in a single layer over the hamburger steaks. If desired, sprinkle with additional salt and pepper to taste.

Bake: Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes. After 45 minutes, remove the foil and sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the top.

Finish baking: Return the dish to the oven and bake uncovered for an additional 15 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender and the cheese is bubbly and golden.

Serve: Remove from the oven and let the dish cool for a few minutes. Garnish with chopped parsley before serving. Enjoy your delicious Amish Hamburger Steak Bake!
